Reset. Refresh. Renew.

2021 – It’s a new year!

I think we’re all on the same page… 2020 was not one of our favorite years. Putting all things aside, we’re hoping you were still able to celebrate the holidays in your own special way. We sure did! From tons of NETFLIX, homemade Christmas cookies, and way too much wine just hanging out on the couch…. we are glad to see that the holiday bloat is real.

Our skin needs some TLC, not to mention our locks that have been tied up in a bun or pony 24/7. That sluggish feeling after the holidays is one thing, but after almost a full year of quarantine, we’re all screaming for true motivation and an accountability partner.

There’s no better time than NOW to push your reset button. It’s a New Year!
Yes! Did you hear that? 2020 is OVER!

First things first… Hydrate

Why is it that most of our problems can be solved by drinking more water?
Feeling a little sluggish? “Drink some water.”
In a foul mood? “Drink a glass of water.”
Terrible headache? “I think it’s time for more water.”
Okay, so maybe that headache that’s been lingering all day is actually from the lack of water, (or maybe too much wine?)

A cup of lemon in hot water

Let’s make a change and hit the ground running first thing every morning, by starting our day with a glass of warm water with fresh lemon. Research has shown many benefits when sticking with this routine. It’s said to boost your digestive system which leads to better nutrient absorption and better overall health. Warm lemon water also leads to improved immunity and skin health due to the Vitamin C, anti-inflammatory benefits as it dissolves uric acid, and helps to flush out toxins in your liver. Try using an eco-friendly straw when consuming your warm lemon water to protect those pearly whites from the acidity of the lemon.

Having a water bottle on hand at all times, allows you NO EXCUSES! And no… not a plastic bottle. We want to kick that bad habit and help save our beautiful planet! Try filling up an eco-friendly water bottle first thing every morning.

Make your Bed

Not only does your bedroom instantly look cleaner, but your sleep quality may also improve. A study conducted by the National Sleep Foundation found that you are 19 percent more likely to have a good night’s sleep… if you make your bed every morning.

Want to learn yet another perk from making your bed every morning? It’s real simple, by making your bed daily, you’re immediately starting your day with an accomplishment. According to William McRaven, Naval Admiral and author of the book Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life… and Maybe the World, “It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another,” McRaven said in his 2014 commencement address at the University of Texas at Austin. “By the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed.”

Body Detox

If you’re anything like us, take-out meals and holiday treats have been 99.9% of your diet these past few weeks. We totally get it… it’s been tough sticking to a routine.. Now is the perfect time to shift gears by swapping out some of the bad by replacing with some of the good. Try something you’ve always wanted to ditch. Try eliminating ice cream for a month. How about prepping your weeknight meals on Sundays? All of these little changes add up!

Hair & Skincare

Not only does eating properly fuel your body, but nutrient dense foods like spinach, berries, eggs, avocados, sweet potatoes, seeds and nuts can also play a major role in the health of your skin and hair. Vitamin A, C, D and E, B vitamins, biotin, protein and essentially fatty acids promote hair growth. Ensuring you have these nutrients in your diet will not only have you feeling great, but will have you glowing in no time!

Hair needing an update, but can’t get to a salon? Or even worse… you FINALLY made it to the salon, but went a little crazy and chopped off too much? Having a set of Beyond Extensions can transform your look in a snap. Unplug

You might also want to trade in your nightly glass of wine for a cup of herbal tea to help you wine down from that hectic day (pun intended).

Turn the TV off. Step away from your phone and start a new nighttime routine with a good book, and absolutely zero Instagram, Facebook, and Netflix.

Have a problem unplugging?
When getting into bed, try charging your phone away from your bedside. If your phone isn’t within hands reach, it will be easier for you to get wrapped into your book. Set your alarm on your phone, and you’re more likely to get up, and stay up, because your feet have hit the floor. You’re less likely to hit snooze once you’ve gotten out of bed.

Snooze

We refer to our daily reset as SLEEP. Sometimes, we can go days without feeling like we’ve caught up on sleep. At least 7 hours of sleep each night is needed for proper cognitive and behavioral functions. Studies have shown sleep deprivation leaves us vulnerable to mood shifts and reduced cognition. Sleep gives your body and brain the proper recovery from our daily stressors. Ensure you get the recommended amount of sleep per night to truly feel your best self in the morning.
Then it’s time to hit the hot lemon water and make that bed!
